You’ve heard the old saw “the definition of insanity is to repeat the same behavior again and again expecting different results.” I would add ”…or to purposely enforce inaction expecting a bad situation to go any way but worse.” If the motivation for inaction is the accumulation of money and power and the argument for inaction is the “slippery slope”, that tired rationalization made to deny the modest wisdom of strengthening firearm background checks, this, my friend, transcends insanity all the way to demagoguery.
